Four Americans are facing charges in Turks and Caicos Islands for collectively carrying 33 rounds of ammunition after authorities found bullets in their luggage that they claim were accidentally left behind. Bryan Hagerich expressed fear of potential prison time, acknowledging that everyone makes mistakes. Ryan Watson, another involved individual, denied any recollection of putting the ammunition in his bag. The governor of Oklahoma is working to assist in freeing the men, denouncing the charges as absurd.
The bullets were reportedly unknowingly left in a duffel bag from a deer hunting trip, which went unnoticed by airport authorities. Turks and Caicos Islands, a British territory, strictly prohibits firearms, weapons, and stray bullets, and local authorities enforce related laws. The men could potentially face a minimum 12-year prison sentence.
Efforts are being made by Governor Kevin Stitt, in collaboration with other state officials and the State Department, to assist in bringing the men back home.
