Following a multi-hour outage early this morning, OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot has gone down again — but this time, it wasn’t the only AI provider affected. On Tuesday morning, both Anthropic’s Claude and Perplexity also experienced issues, but these were resolved more quickly.
Google’s Gemini appears to be operational at present, though it may have briefly gone offline, according to some user reports.
It’s unusual for three major AI providers to be down simultaneously, which could indicate a broader infrastructure issue or an internet-scale problem, like those that affect multiple social media sites at once. It’s also possible that Claude and Perplexity’s issues were caused by a surge in traffic due to ChatGPT’s outage.
During ChatGPT’s outage, users were unable to message the AI chatbot. The issue started around 7:33 AM PT and was resolved by 10:17 AM PT — marking another multi-hour outage.
During the outage, ChatGPT’s website displayed a message indicating the service was at capacity — written in pirate speak — and offered to notify users when it was back online.
Claude’s site showed an error message stating: “An error occurred in the Server Components render. The specific message is omitted in production builds to avoid leaking sensitive details. A digest property is included on this error instance which may provide additional details about the nature of the error.”
The site then advises to “try again.”
Claude started working again sometime after 12:10 p.m. ET.
Perplexity’s site also served the over-capacity message, stating “We’ll be right back” and “We’re getting a lot of questions right now and have reached our capacity. Please come back soon.”
The site resumed functioning around the same time as Claude but has been intermittently up and down since.
Notably, ChatGPT had recently resolved a lengthy outage affecting its service overnight. The chatbot was down for users worldwide during the early morning hours (Pacific Time), causing complaints across X and Threads. The company’s status page indicated a bug was being fixed and the issue was monitored around 12:21 a.m. PT.
As of 7:33 a.m. PT, the status page had been updated to state that ChatGPT was once again unavailable for some users, and OpenAI was “currently investigating this issue.” The chatbot was still down at 12:28 p.m. ET, as noted on its status page, which flagged it as a “major outage.” The issue was resolved several hours later.

The AI providers did not immediately return requests for comment or additional information on the outages, but updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
