The latest polling data released Thursday indicates a tight race for the position of North Carolina’s governor. According to a survey conducted by the John Locke Foundation/Cygnal from May 4-5 among 600 likely voters in the state, Republican candidate Mark Robinson has a slight lead over Democrat Josh Stein. Robinson currently has the support of 39.2 percent of respondents, while Stein has 39.1 percent. The remaining 17.1 percent of voters are undecided.

These numbers are a concern for Robinson, as he previously held a 2-point lead over Stein in April. Robinson’s lead has diminished since then, despite facing false allegations from the media ever since winning the nomination to run against Stein.

In addition to the gubernatorial race, the survey also shows a close contest for a North Carolina Supreme Court seat, with Republican Jefferson Griffin ahead of Democrat Allison Riggs by less than 1 point. A significant percentage of voters, 21 percent, are undecided in this race.

On a broader scale, the survey reveals that Republicans are performing better in the presidential and legislative elections. Former President Donald Trump is shown to have a lead over President Joe Biden, with independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also gaining some support. The survey also indicates a favorable outlook for Republicans in state legislative and congressional races.

Overall, the survey reflects negative sentiments towards Biden and the direction of the country, with a majority of likely North Carolina voters disapproving of the president’s job performance. This dissatisfaction may have an impact on the upcoming elections in the state.
