Biden Calls Debate Performance a “Bad Episode” in ABC Interview, Says He Undergoes Daily Assessments

In a sit-down interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, President Joe Biden addressed concerns about his performance in his recent debate against former President Donald Trump, describing it as a “bad episode” and attributing it to exhaustion. Biden said he didn’t listen to his instincts when preparing for the debate and didn’t watch it afterwards.

“It was a bad episode. No indication of any serious condition. I was exhausted. I didn’t listen to my instincts in terms of preparing and — and a bad night,” Biden told Stephanopoulos.

When asked about his mental acuity, Biden declined to commit to taking an independent cognitive test, stating that he undergoes a cognitive test every day as he campaigns and runs the country. He also acknowledged that he can no longer run as quickly as he used to, but maintained that he is in good shape and dared Stephanopoulos to keep up with his schedule.

“Look, I have a cognitive test every single day,” Biden told Stephanopoulos. “Not only am I campaigning, but I’m running the world.”

Biden also spoke about his recent downtime at Camp David, saying that he was feeling terrible and had a cold, which was confirmed by doctors.

Biden spoke with Stephanopoulos after appearing at a rally in Madison, Wisconsin, on Friday, in which he remained adamant he is “running and going to win again” despite calls from the likes of Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) to step down as the Democratic nominee before next month’s national convention in Chicago.

“Some folks don’t seem to care who you voted for,” he told the crowd. “They’re trying to push me out of the race. Well, let me say this as clearly as I can: I’m staying in the race. I’ll beat Donald Trump.”

Meanwhile, Senator Mark Warner is reportedly assembling a group of senators who are also calling on Biden to withdraw as the Democratic nominee.
