Biden Supporters Start New Super PAC to Increase Youth Voting

President Joe Biden‘s supporters have initiated a new Super PAC with the goal of bolstering his appeal among younger voters.

The new organization, Won’t PAC Down, has employed Gen Z and millennial writers, directors, and producers to create content specifically designed to attract voters under 30, Politico reported. Among its team members are some individuals who previously worked on Biden’s 2020 campaign, such as John Della Volpe, who was part of the campaign’s polling team.

Although only recently disclosed, the PAC has been active for the past six months and aims to raise and spend between $20 to $25 million.

Hollywood writers working on the project include those from shows like Saturday Night Live, Parks and Recreation, and Big Mouth. The writer’s room is led by Travis Helwig, a former head writer at Crooked Media, who recognized the challenge they face and the awkward perception surrounding Biden’s efforts to engage young voters, vowing to adopt a fresh strategy.

“There’s a big difference between putting a celebrity on camera and having them say, ‘if you liked me in Madame Web, then you’re going to love voting,’ versus what we’re doing,” he told the outlet. “We’re taking the best young writers and directors, who are the age and demographics of the people we’re targeting, using poll-tested messaging, and shaping it in a way that will resonate with young people and get them excited.”

Biden, while still leading among young voters, has seen a substantial decline in support since 2020. An April poll by the Institute of Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School revealed the president only leads former President Donald Trump by eight points among those under 30, though this margin widens to 13 points among registered voters.

Biden’s current support levels are markedly lower than the 60% he enjoyed in the same poll in 2020.

Although legally prohibited from direct coordination with Won’t PAC Down, the Biden campaign remains hopeful about its potential impact.

“Groups like Won’t PAC Down, which understand the power of the youth vote, will play a key role in mobilizing and activating young people across the country,” Biden’s campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, told Politico.

The group’s initial advertisements are anticipated to be released in July.
