DNC Plans Virtual Roll Call to Secure Biden’s Nomination Before Ohio Deadline

The Democratic National Committee is working to ensure President Joe Biden’s nomination through a virtual roll call ahead of Ohio’s August 7 ballot certification deadline.

Plans to nominate Biden before the party’s August 19 convention arise as the party strives to secure Biden’s spot on Ohio’s ballot. Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, a Republican, had warned that Biden might miss the state’s ballot deadline, given the party’s convention is scheduled after the certification cutoff.

Since then, the state’s legislature has been at a standstill on deciding whether to push the deadline back, with the Ohio Senate holding a special session on Tuesday to address the issue.

“Joe Biden will be on the ballot in Ohio and all 50 states, and Ohio Republicans agree. But when the time has come for action, they have failed to act every time, so Democrats will land this plane on our own,” DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison said in a statement. “Through a virtual roll call, we will ensure that Republicans can’t chip away at our democracy through incompetence or partisan tricks and that Ohioans can exercise their right to vote for the presidential candidate of their choice.”
