Actor Johnny Wactor, who portrayed Brando Corbin on General Hospital, was tragically killed on Saturday while attempting to protect a co-worker from armed thieves allegedly trying to steal a catalytic converter.
“We’re Southern, born and raised, and we would never let a female walk to their car by herself,” Wactor’s grief-stricken brother explained. “He came across them and thought his truck was being towed. So he said something to the guys, like, ‘Hey, are you towing?’
“And then once he turned around, he saw what was happening and he put his co-worker behind him. And that’s when they shot him.”
According to the Los Angeles Police Department’s assessment of the scene, the actor was retreating and attempting to shield his co-worker when the men fatally shot him, his brother Grant alleged.
The actor’s mother, Scarlett Wactor, also confirmed to NBC News that her son had stepped in front of the co-worker to protect her, sacrificing his life. She described him as “a light in a dark room.”
“There is a huge hole in all of us, and there is no fixing that,” she added.
His agent David Shaul told Variety the late actor was an “outstanding human being.” He added, “He would literally give you the shirt off his back.”
“After over a decade together, he will leave a hole in our hearts forever.”
In addition to his two-year stint on General Hospital, Wactor starred in the 2013 NBC series Siberia and appeared in two episodes of HBO’s Westworld.
Wactor’s tragic death occurs amidst an unprecedented crime wave in Los Angeles, which has affected several celebrities in the past two years.
For instance, in August 2023, two victims were robbed at gunpoint outside the celebrity hotspot Craig’s on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood.
