President Joe Biden will attend a campaign fundraiser in Boston, Massachusetts, Tuesday evening, yet one of the event’s hosts is warning that the president’s Israel policies could cost him in November.
The president will travel to Boston after campaigning earlier on Tuesday in New Hampshire, which some polls now show as a toss-up in the 2024 general election.
Despite pausing the transfer of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel earlier this month, the president is still facing heavy criticism within the Democratic Party over his handling of the war in Gaza, and George Krupp, a co-host of the president’s Boston fundraiser on Tuesday, urged Biden to take the matter “off the table.”
“I think this Israel thing has been a catastrophe for him,” Krupp said in an interview with the Financial Times on Monday. “I absolutely think that Biden needs to suspend arms shipments both for humanitarian and political reasons.”
Krupp’s comments came the same day Biden forcefully denied genocide allegations levied against Israel.
“Contrary to allegations made against Israel in the International Court of Justice, what’s happening is not genocide,” the president told attendees at a Jewish American heritage celebration at the White House on Monday.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump appears to be shortening Biden’s lead on total campaign cash. The former president outraised the current with $76 million in donations compared to $51 million for Biden and the Democratic Party, the first month this cycle in which Trump and Republicans have bested Biden.
The influx of cash shows Trump’s criminal hush money trial in New York and the threat of prison time have not spooked major donors. Trump was aided by a high-dollar Palm Beach fundraiser hosted by billionaire John Paulson that brought in a record-setting $50.5 million.
“The only people left in America who support Crooked Joe Biden are out-of-touch billionaires in Hollywood, and it turns out even they are done giving to a failing campaign,” Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. “President Trump’s fundraising prowess and his increasingly dominant position in the polls proves three things — the momentum is 100% on President Trump’s side, Americans see the truth about Joe Biden’s witch-hunt trial in New York, and they want President Trump back in the White House to Make America Great Again.”
Biden still holds a commanding lead over Trump in total fundraising, ending the month with roughly $100 million more cash on hand, and the president’s campaign argues that the former president’s mounting legal fees undercut his ability to campaign.
Biden campaign officials sent a memo to reporters Monday evening, claiming that the Trump campaign spent twice as much on legal fees as on campaigning last month and that 200 of his donors had maxed out over that period.
“It’s this simple — the Trump campaign does not have the campaign infrastructure, message, or candidate to win in November,” Biden’s campaign said in a statement. “You don’t have to take our word for it — we just found out Trump canceled a third trip to Arizona this year.”
