A 74-year-old man, James Copenhaver, who was injured during the shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has been discharged from the hospital. According to a spokesperson for Highmark Health, Copenhaver was released from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh after receiving treatment for his injuries.

Copenhaver was one of two people who were injured during the July 13 rally, where a gunman, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire from a nearby rooftop. The former president was also shot in the upper part of his right ear. The other injured man, David Dutch, was previously released from the hospital after being shot in the chest and liver.

The incident also resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore, a former Pennsylvania fire chief, who was shot and killed while trying to protect his wife and daughter. Copenhaver’s family had expressed gratitude to the first responders, medics, and hospital staff who cared for him, and offered prayers for the other victims and Trump.

In a statement, Copenhaver’s family thanked the medical team for their care, saying, “Jim would like to especially thank the first responders, medics, and hospital staff who have provided him with initial and continuing care.” The family’s statement was released through Allegheny Health Network.

In response to the incident, Trump has announced plans to hold a rally in Butler to honor Comperatore and the injured victims, describing it as a “big and beautiful rally” to recognize the bravery of those affected.
