58 Shot, 11 Killed in Violent Chicago 4th of July Weekend

In Chicago, a violent Fourth of July weekend left at least 58 people shot, with 11 victims succumbing to their injuries. According to reports from ABC 7 and the Chicago Sun-Times, a spate of gunfire erupted across the city, with devastating consequences.

One such incident involved multiple shooters who opened fire into a residence in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side, leaving a deadly toll. An eight-year-old boy and two women lost their lives in the attack, while a five-year-old and seven-year-old boy were left in critical condition.

These fatalities bring the total number of people killed in Chicago to at least 286 since January 1, 2024, through July 5, 2024. In comparison, on last year’s July 4th holiday, 18 people were shot and two killed. One Chicago resident described the current situation, stating, “Fourth of July has become assassination day.”
