Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the United States and Ukraine are currently in the process of negotiating a bilateral security agreement. This agreement would involve the United States providing additional financial aid to Ukraine over the next decade. Zelensky expressed his gratitude to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and other congressmen for their support in securing a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine from a $95 billion foreign aid package.

During a recent conversation with Jeffries, Zelensky emphasized the importance of receiving Patriot missile systems for Ukraine’s defense. The President has requested more American-made Patriot systems in the past and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed that the U.S. will be sending more of these systems to Ukraine as part of an additional $6 billion foreign aid package.

Zelensky highlighted that the two countries are working on finalizing the text of the bilateral security agreement, which aims to strengthen security and cooperation between Ukraine and the United States. The agreement will outline levels of support in various areas, including armed support, financial assistance, and joint arms production, over the next ten years. Zelensky praised both Ukrainian and American teams for their progress in drafting the agreement.

In addition to the aid from the United States, United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has pledged to provide an extra £500 million in foreign aid to Ukraine. This collective support from the U.S. and the UK demonstrates a strong commitment to helping Ukraine defend against external threats.
