Jimmy Kimmel: ‘We’re Constructing a Gigantic Ad-Supported Mess’

ABC’s late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel criticized his Disney bosses in a bold statement on Tuesday, calling the streaming service they are creating “one enormous ad-supported streaming pile of rubbish.” Kimmel took a direct shot at Disney CEO Bob Iger during the company’s annual upfront presentation to advertisers in New York City.

Kimmel remarked, “Bob Iger should be enjoying retirement on a yacht, but instead he’s here pretending to be excited about a new season of Will-F***ing-Trent.” He also mentioned how Iger had attempted to sell the company last year, only to find no takers. Kimmel humorously stated, “When no one wanted to buy us, Bob clarified that he was just testing the waters for Wall Street. Well, Bob, when people test the waters, they usually dip a toe in, they don’t drown their children.”

The talk show host also mocked the concept of streaming bundles, jokingly referring to it as an act of desperation. Kimmel quipped, “We didn’t want to bundle, we had to — it’s like getting into a sleeping bag with your uncle to survive the cold. Our goal is to build an enormous ad-supported streaming pile of rubbish.”

Kimmel concluded by poking fun at other streaming services for following suit with their own bundles. He humorously remarked on the copycat names and even took a swipe at former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

Overall, Kimmel’s bold and satirical comments shed light on the competitive landscape of streaming services and the challenges they face in the industry.
