Live: House Committee Votes on Contempt Charges Against Merrick Garland

0:00

The House Rules Committee is scheduled to vote Tuesday at noon on the markup regarding whether Attorney General Merrick Garland will be held in contempt of Congress.

Garland faces potential contempt charges for withholding audio recordings of special counsel Robert Hur’s interview with President Joe Biden concerning classified documents. A transcript of the interview has been released, in which Hur described Biden as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

Two House committees, the House Oversight and House Judiciary Committee, have previously voted along party lines to advance a report recommending he be held in contempt.

If approved by the House Rules Committee, the issue will be brought before the entire House for a vote on whether Garland will be held in contempt. With a very thin Republican majority, it remains uncertain if the House in its entirety would have enough votes.
