Baier also pointed out that Walz’s background and persona are likely to resonate with voters in rural America, who may feel that former President Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, are more in tune with their concerns. Baier noted that Trump’s ability to connect with these voters was a key factor in his 2016 presidential campaign.
Co-host Gillian Turner asked Baier if he thought the Harris campaign had chosen Walz as its running mate because of his flashy persona, rather than his substance. Baier responded that the campaign likely values Walz’s ability to connect with voters and his willingness to engage in media interviews, even if it means going to unconventional places.
