Trump pollster John McLaughlin, CEO and partner of McLaughlin & Associates, recently discussed with us the upcoming election and the states of Virginia and Minnesota being in play.
McLaughlin stated that Trump appears to be ahead in the national popular vote and provided some data to support this claim. He mentioned that there are around 100 million eligible voters who do not vote, but the turnout in the last election was record-breaking at 160 million, up from 139 million in 2016. He also noted that Trump is leading in battleground states.
The Trump campaign released polling numbers for Minnesota and Virginia, showing Trump tied with Biden in Minnesota and slightly trailing in Virginia. McLaughlin also mentioned an Emerson College Poll that had Trump within five points in New Jersey, taken before a massive rally in the state that attracted around 100,000 people.
McLaughlin highlighted the shift in polling numbers in states like New York and New Jersey, indicating a potential backlash against the political persecution of Trump. He emphasized Trump’s strategy to make a heavy play for traditionally blue states like New York, New Jersey, Virginia, New Mexico, and Minnesota.
Trump himself expressed his intention to focus on these states through rallies and speeches, acknowledging the challenge but expressing determination to make an effort to win them.
