Police have apprehended one of the two suspects captured on security footage committing a bold carjacking on a Mississippi family’s driveway, armed with a gun.

Jackson authorities reported that one suspect was turned in by his parents after they viewed the footage of the carjacking on local media.

Surveillance footage reveals two suspects approaching a family as they were getting into their car outside their home on Friday.

One man fires a shot, startling Heather Allen, one of the victims, and her son who were outside the vehicle.

“They kind of do a U-turn, come walking up. You know, they say something, and I can’t recall what they say, but they start shooting at me. And my son is on the outside of the car, and they’re like, ‘Give, give me the keys. Give me the keys.’ And they yanked and pulled my daughter out of the car. And I stood up, and I saw them,” Allen told WJTV.

Allen’s other son, daughter, and two young grandchildren were inside the car, she said.

The footage shows the others exiting the car as the suspects attempt to get in, and her daughter is heard shouting, “My babies, my babies are in the car!”

The family evacuates the car and returns to the house, but Allen told WJTV that one of the carjackers continued to shout for the car keys. When they couldn’t figure out how to operate the first car, Allen is seen throwing keys to another vehicle, which the suspects then drove away in.

Allen informed WJTV that the Jackson Police Department located her car about two blocks away and approximately 40 minutes after the carjacking occurred.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade confirmed that investigators had identified two persons of interest in connection with the carjacking, as reported by WAPT-TV.

“I had an opportunity to look at the video of Ms. Allen and her family being robbed and carjacked in their driveway,” Wade said. “It was extremely disturbing to me. It was very concerning to me because a threat to them and their family is a threat to everyone.”

The arrested suspect faces charges of armed carjacking and six counts of aggravated assault. The search for the second suspect continues.

The family told WAPT that they had lived in the area for about three months and are now planning to move out of Jackson.

“We can’t stay here anymore,” Allen said.
