Van Jones: Kamala Harris Doesn’t Need to Talk to Reporters Yet

On Monday’s edition of CNN’s “AC360,” Senior Political Commentator Van Jones made the case that Vice President Kamala Harris, a 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, is currently receiving the lion’s share of attention and has no pressing need to engage with reporters.

Jones pointed out that Harris’s rival, former President Donald Trump, is not generating the same level of interest, whereas Harris is executing a well-calculated strategy. According to Jones, Harris is “doing exactly what she needs to do” and will likely grant an interview to a reporter in the future.

Jones referenced Harris’s recent interview with CNN following the June presidential debate, suggesting that she has already demonstrated her ability to effectively communicate with the press. However, Jones argued that Harris is wisely choosing to maintain a low profile for the time being, as her current approach is yielding positive results.

Jones quipped, “If it ain’t broke, why fix it?” implying that Harris’s strategy is working and she should continue to stick with it. With the convention on the horizon, Jones predicted that Harris’s popularity will only continue to grow, potentially increasing her lead by a point or two. At that point, Jones suggested, Harris can afford to be more forthcoming with reporters. Jones marveled at Harris’s political prowess, describing her as “the most underestimated politician in America” who is currently delivering a “masterclass in politics.”
