Unapologetic Scammers Flaunt Their Crimes Without Fear

A cybercriminal was caught on a Telegram channel explaining how to run a sextortion scam, tricking people into sharing nude images and demanding money. These scripts were found on Scribd, with at least 80 removed after WIRED contacted the company for violating their policies. The cybercriminals, known as Yahoo Boys, have been able to thrive online due to lack of moderation and are now active on messaging platforms, TikTok, and YouTube. Social media companies like TikTok and YouTube have removed accounts promoting scams and illegal activities. The Yahoo Boys utilize new technologies like deepfake tools and nudification tools to scam victims. Experts believe that social media companies and law enforcement should take the Yahoo Boys more seriously as a dangerous transnational organized crime group.
