Former President Donald Trump is ramping up his efforts in Minnesota in an attempt to turn the state red, which has consistently voted for Democratic presidential candidates since 1976.

Trump is scheduled to speak at the Minnesota Republican Party’s Lincoln Reagan dinner this week, with House Majority Whip Tom Emmer welcoming him to the state. Emmer expressed his excitement for Trump’s visit, emphasizing the goal of overturning the policies of the Biden Administration and getting the country back on track.

In an interview with KNSI Radio, Trump voiced his belief that Minnesota is within reach for him, stating that he plans to put a significant focus on winning the state.

Minnesota has been a Democratic stronghold in presidential elections since 1976, with the exception of Richard Nixon’s victory in 1972. Trump came close to flipping the state in 2016, losing to Hillary Clinton by a slim margin. However, Biden secured a larger lead in 2020, winning the state by 7.1 percentage points.

Political experts suggest that Biden may face challenges in Minnesota this time around due to economic factors, potentially making the state competitive for Trump. Recent polls show Trump leading Biden in head-to-head matchups in the state, indicating a shift in support towards the former president.

Trump has expressed his intentions to target traditionally blue states, including Minnesota, in his upcoming political endeavors. The Minnesota GOP’s Lincoln Reagan Dinner, where Trump is set to speak, is scheduled for May 17.
