Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, arrived in Milwaukee on Sunday evening, just a day after being shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The former president landed in the city around 8 p.m. Eastern, ahead of the four-day Republican National Convention, which is set to begin on Monday.
The convention will be held in Wisconsin’s largest city, and Trump is expected to accept the party’s presidential nomination on Thursday night. Despite the shooting, which injured Trump’s ear and killed one rallygoer, the Secret Service has announced that it will not make any changes to its security arrangements ahead of the convention.
The agency has been preparing for the event for over a year, and has been operating at the highest possible security level. However, the shooting has raised questions about the agency’s preparedness and response to the attack. Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, has been identified as the shooter, and an agent reportedly walked up on him as he was camped out on the roof of the American Glass Research building, backing away down a ladder when the shooter aimed his rifle at the agent.
Trump had initially planned to delay his trip to Wisconsin and the convention by two days, but ultimately decided to proceed with his original schedule. The former president has been treated and released from the hospital, and is said to be “fine” after the shooting.
