A New Jersey father, Christopher Gregor, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of his six-year-old son, Corey Micciolo, despite maintaining his innocence until the end. Gregor was found guilty of both aggravated manslaughter and child endangerment in connection with Corey’s death in April 2021.
In a emotional outburst, Gregor claimed he did not harm his son and only regretted not seeking medical attention sooner. “I didn’t hurt my son. I loved him and I still do,” he said, his voice cracking with emotion.
However, the prosecution presented a damning case against Gregor, including a shocking video of him forcing Corey to run on a high-speed treadmill, despite the boy’s repeated falls. The video, which was played in court, appeared to corroborate Corey’s account of the events leading up to his death.
Corey’s mother, Breanna Micciolo, pleaded for the maximum sentence, stating that Gregor had shown no remorse for his actions. “He has no remorse for any of the actions he committed. His own remorse is because he got caught and convicted,” she told the court.
Micciolo also alleged that Gregor’s abuse of Corey was motivated by a desire to hurt her, and that he had never shown any love or concern for their son. “Everything he had done to Corey was done out of spite to me. Another reason is he is sick in the head and used Corey as his punching bag,” she said.
The case took a dramatic turn when a medical examiner amended the autopsy report to show that Corey’s death was a homicide, rather than an accident. Dr. Thomas Andrew, a former chief medical examiner for New Hampshire, testified that Corey died as a result of blunt force injuries to the chest and lacerations to the heart and liver.
Micciolo also revealed that she had reported suspected abuse to New Jersey officials over 100 times in 18 months, but no action was taken. “I don’t know if it was incompetence on their side or they just didn’t believe me,” she said.
