Disturbing footage from a New York high school shows a “boy who identifies as a girl” violently dragging a female student out of the girls’ bathroom by her hair, causing outrage and threats against the school. The incident has forced the school to close on Friday.
The video, obtained by Reduxx, a women and children safeguarding outlet, captures a transgender student attacking a smaller female student in a restroom stall at Arcadia High School in Rochester.
The attacker overpowered the girl, hitting her and dragging her across the bathroom floor while other students watched. School security officers and faculty members eventually intervened to stop the assault.
Although the Greece Central School District did not confirm the transgender identity of the attacker, a student at Arcadia told Reduxx that he identifies as transgender and the attack was in retaliation for insults.
Following the release of the footage, the school received a bomb threat, prompting a closure before police determined it was not credible. Superintendent Kathleen Graupman labeled the threat a “hate crime.”
The incident has sparked debate on transgender bathroom policies, with some students at another New York high school staging a walkout in protest of allowing students to use restrooms based on their gender identity.
