Tragedy struck on the 210 Freeway in Sylmar, California, when a suicidal man leaped from the Roxford overpass and landed on a vehicle driven by Florencio Galindo, killing his wife Margarita.

The incident occurred on August 9, as the couple embarked on a weekend getaway. The jumper, who had been threatening to take his own life, crashed through the windshield of the Galindo’s vehicle, critically injuring Margarita, who was seated in the passenger seat. Florencio, behind the wheel, escaped serious injury, while the man who jumped died instantly.

David Galindo, the couple’s son, recalled the harrowing moment his father called to report the incident. “He told me ambulances were on the way, and he pulled over to the side, but couldn’t open the doors. That’s when I knew it was serious,” David said.

Margarita fought for her life in the ICU for several weeks but ultimately succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday. Her family is now grappling with the devastating loss, wondering what might have been if circumstances had been different. “What if she had stopped for gas or water? This might not have happened,” David said, his voice filled with grief.

Stephanie Galindo, Margarita’s daughter, echoed her brother’s sentiments. “If it had been just two seconds or two inches away, my mom would have been fine,” she said, struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

Despite his unbearable loss, Florencio has shown compassion for the man who inadvertently took his wife’s life. According to David, his father harbors no resentment towards the individual, acknowledging that he may have been struggling with his own demons. “He doesn’t know what problems the man had, but he feels no anger,” David said.

A GoFundMe page set up to support the Galindo family has raised over $10,000.
