TikTok Tests Streak Feature Similar to Snapchat

To encourage users to spend more time on the platform and enhance engagement, TikTok is testing streaks similar to those on Snapchat.

TikTok confirmed it is testing the feature but did not offer any detailed statement. The company mentioned it is experimenting with streaks in select markets and among certain users.

The rules for maintaining a streak are straightforward: You must direct message someone for more than three consecutive days. Once achieved, a streak badge, along with the number of streak days, will appear on the chat. Recently, several users reported seeing TikTok’s streaks feature on their apps via social media.

A streak ends if neither person sends a message within 24 hours of the last conversation. TikTok sends reminders to users when their streak is about to expire to keep it active.

Users can disable these notifications by going to Settings > Privacy > Notifications > Streak settings. This menu also allows users to turn off in-app streak notifications.

Traditionally, Snapchat streaks serve as a status symbol among friends to demonstrate closeness and frequent interaction. TikTok aims to evoke a similar sentiment with its version of streaks.

Last year, Snap capitalized on this idea by introducing a paid feature to allow users to pause a streak. Additionally, Snap provided an option to restore streaks.
