Marlon Wayans: The Weinstein Brothers Are ‘Monsters’

0:00

Comedian and actor Marlon Wayans recently spoke out about his experience with film producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein, accusing them of “raping” him “businesswise” by ousting him from the successful Scary Movie franchise that he co-created with his brothers. Wayans expressed his frustration with the Weinstein brothers, labeling them as “monsters” who showed up in the business world, as well as in their personal lives.

The original Scary Movie, which was a hit in 2000, was a collaborative effort between the Wayans brothers and Dimension Films, a subsidiary of Miramax Films owned by the Weinsteins. However, after the success of the first film, the Wayanses were excluded from the franchise, starting with Scary Movie 3.

Despite Miramax’s recent announcement of a sixth installment in the Scary Movie series, Wayans revealed that he did not receive payment for his involvement in the previous films, further criticizing the Weinstein brothers for their unethical business practices. The comedian also made controversial remarks about the Weinsteins, mentioning that they had taken advantage of many individuals in the industry.

Wayans’ comments about his dealings with the Weinstein brothers shed light on the darker side of the entertainment industry and the challenges faced by artists when navigating business relationships. Despite Bob Weinstein’s denial of any wrongdoing towards the Wayans brothers, Marlon continues to speak out against the Weinsteins, portraying them as an “evil regime” not fit for collaboration.

These revelations come at a tumultuous time for Harvey Weinstein, who recently had his New York rape conviction overturned but remains incarcerated for another rape conviction in Los Angeles. Marlon Wayans’ candid remarks serve as a reminder of the complexities and injustices present within the world of show business.
