The Hypocrisy of George Conway: A Self-Appointed Arbiter of Normalcy

0:00

Attorney George Conway appeared on MSNBC’s Deadline on Wednesday, where he made a scathing assessment of the current state of the Republican Party. According to Conway, the party has been completely taken over by extremist elements, leaving no room for moderate or “normal” voices.

Host Nicolle Wallace pointed out the irony of Republican politicians openly associating with far-right figures, rather than trying to keep them at arm’s length. She wondered why the party continues to pursue a strategy that has consistently led to electoral defeats, citing the examples of Donald Trump’s losses in 2018, 2020, and 2022.

Conway attributed the party’s behavior to a kind of “disease” that has taken hold, driven by a “psychopathic authoritarian” leader who has normalized extreme rhetoric and behavior. He noted that the party’s willingness to cross previously unacceptable lines on issues like race, gender, and ethnicity has created a toxic environment that is driving out moderate voices.

Conway cited the examples of figures like Jack Posobiec and Laura Loomer, who have been promoted by Trump despite their extreme views. He also pointed to the presence of politicians like Marjorie Taylor Greene in Congress, who have become emboldened to express their radical views without fear of reprisal. According to Conway, this has created a situation in which “there is no normality left in the Republican Party,” and the party is actively driving out anyone who doesn’t conform to its extreme ideology.
