Police are seeking individuals connected to an assault that occurred on Sunday morning in Southern Oklahoma City, resulting in a man being beaten, bloodied, and left abandoned.
A group of teenagers have been detained, but additional suspects are believed to be involved.
“That is disgusting,” voiced Mike Martin, a long-time resident near the vicinity.
The assault reportedly took place on May 26th near a 7/11 gas station close to Kentucky Avenue and Southwest 59th Street. Tilman Shannon was confronted by individuals in a vehicle before being chased and beaten near the gas station’s dumpster.
Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Dillon Quirk revealed that surveillance footage uncovered multiple individuals attacking Shannon at the gas station, with nine people ganging up on him.
Video evidence of the incident was found on social media, allegedly streamed by suspect Veronica Benavente on her Instagram page.
Authorities revealed that the video displayed Benavente using racist language and slurs during the attack.
The suspects were captured on video bragging about their actions and laughing during the gruesome incident. Shannon suffered severe injuries, including the removal of his colostomy bag causing his intestines to come out.
Shannon was transported to OU Medical Center for treatment and is anticipated to recover.
So far, three juvenile suspects and two adult suspects, including Benavente and 18-year-old Eric Villagomez, have been detained. Four additional unidentified suspects remain at large.
