Pop sensation Taylor Swift’s legal threat against a Florida college student who tracks her private jet travels has not yet materialized, as the student revealed that she flew 178,000 miles in a year. Despite the potential legal action, computer student Jack Sweeney continues to post the whereabouts of the singer’s remaining private jet, even after she sold one earlier this year.
Sweeney, 21, remains defiant and recently released a YouTube video showcasing all of Taylor’s flights from 2023, enough to circumnavigate the globe seven times. According to the US Sun, Sweeney has not tallied the total number of flights but estimates it to be over 170.
The video highlights that Swift’s two private jets covered 178,000 miles in 2023, emitting approximately 1200 tons of CO2 in the process. This is equivalent to flying around the earth seven times and is 83 times more than the average American’s carbon emissions.
Critics have found it ironic that celebrities like Taylor Swift, who preach about climate change, are some of the worst offenders when it comes to carbon emissions from private jet travel. A study by Yard, a sustainable marketing agency, identified Swift as the biggest celebrity CO2e polluter of 2022, spending nearly 16 full days in the air.
Despite the backlash, Sweeney remains committed to tracking Taylor Swift’s private jet travels for environmental accountability.
