CNN Senior Legal Analyst: Stealing from Trump Worse Than Falsifying Records

CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig mentioned on Monday during the network’s broadcast of former President Donald Trump’s business record trial that witness Michael Cohen’s admission of embezzling money from the Trump organization constitutes a more severe crime compared to the charges against Trump.

Honig remarked, “The way this was brought up and discussed on direct is what Julia Louis-Dreyfus would refer to as, ‘Yada yada yada.’ Here’s what Michael Cohen said.”

Host Dana Bash interjected, “I believe that was George Costanza.”

Host Jake Tapper responded, “No, no, no it was Elaine.”

Honig concurred, “It was Elaine.”

Tapper clarified, “It was actually a girl Costanza was dating. Sorry, go ahead.”

Honig proceeded, “In his direct testimony, Michael Cohen detailed the events, stating, ‘That’s what was owed and I didn’t feel Mr. Trump deserved the difference.’ This contrasts significantly with saying, ‘I stole $60,000 from my boss regarding the transaction central to this case.’ Furthermore, the fact that he was ever charged with larceny is crucial because embezzling $60,000 through fraud, considered larceny in New York State, is a graver crime than falsifying business records.”
