President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race on Sunday, following weeks of growing pressure from congressional Democrats and donors.

Shortly after, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s nominee, setting the stage for a critical November election. “Squad” member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) quickly pledged her “full support” to Harris, emphasizing the urgency of defeating Donald Trump and protecting American democracy.

Massachusetts Democrat Rep. Ayanna Pressley hailed Harris as a “moral and empathetic leader,” praising her qualifications to serve as President. “I vigorously endorse her to be our 47th President of the United States,” Pressley said, touting Harris’s commitment to advancing pro-choice legislation. As chair of the Abortion Rights and Access Task Force in the House, Pressley praised Harris’s effectiveness in promoting abortion justice. She expressed confidence that Harris could unify the party and build a coalition to secure the Democratic nomination.

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) also extended her support to Harris, expressing her “thrilled” endorsement of the vice president.
