Speaker Johnson announces the largest transfer to NRCC since becoming Speaker

Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana announced his largest single transfer of $4.5 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee since taking office last October. The announcement was made during a closed-door meeting with House Republicans, with House Majority Leader Steve Scalise also announcing a million-dollar match program for members who donate to the NRCC.

This transfer comes as GOP leaders focus on strengthening the party’s campaign arm for the upcoming November elections. The funds transferred are expected to support vulnerable GOP members known as the “NRCC Patriots.” Speaker Johnson has been actively fundraising for Republican candidates, traveling to various states to campaign on their behalf.

Despite initial concerns about fundraising after the departure of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Speaker Johnson has demonstrated strong fundraising capabilities. He raised over $20 million in his first full quarter as speaker, although it falls short of McCarthy’s fundraising numbers in previous years.

While the NRCC received a record-high transfer from Speaker Johnson, it has consistently been outraised by its Democratic counterpart. Despite this, Speaker Johnson’s efforts to support GOP candidates and the party’s campaign arm have been notable in the lead-up to the elections.
