A St. Louis County Circuit Court judge signed an arrest warrant last week for a man from Clinton County, Illinois accused of shoplifting more than $12,000 in merchandise from local stores in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Police were investigating two thefts at Lowe’s and Sunglass Hut, believing they were linked to the same person.
Coleman Young was identified as the suspect in the thefts. A search warrant executed at his residence led to the discovery of stolen merchandise from various stores such as Walgreens, Target, CVS, Walmart, Dierbergs, Sunglass Hut, and others. The total value of the stolen goods was reported to be $12,802.33.
Additionally, police found a purse containing a wallet and credit card that had been reported stolen by a Target employee. Two notebooks detailing the stolen items, dates, and stores were also found during the search.
Young allegedly confessed to police that he sells stolen items to support his gambling habit.
Young has been charged by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with stealing, stealing – all other property, and receiving stolen goods. He also faces other pending theft cases in St. Louis County, St. Clair County, Illinois, and Madison County, Illinois.
