Serena Williams attributes the “negativity” aimed at Caitlin Clark to those who can’t match her abilities. The tennis legend also encouraged Clark to keep doing what she’s doing.
“I just love that she tries to stay grounded and that she doesn’t look at her social media,” Williams told the AP. “I get it. I don’t either. And I think it’s so important to continue doing what she’s doing.”
Williams is not alone in addressing the jealousy factor behind Clark’s treatment on the court. Earlier this week, Shaquille O’Neal mentioned on his podcast that Clark’s rough treatment stemmed from “professional jealousy.”
Clark has faced harsh treatment from WNBA veterans this year. Notably, two weeks ago, Chicago Sky player Chennedy Carter sent Clark crashing to the floor with a vicious blindside hit.
Clark and the Indiana Fever will face Chennedy Carter and the Chicago Sky again on Sunday afternoon.
This season, Clark is averaging 15.6 points and six assists per game.
