Sen. Tuberville Says He Won’t Support McConnell Successor Who Opposes Trump

In a recent interview on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) emphasized the importance of unity within the Republican Party, stating that he would not support any senator seeking to replace Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who opposes former President Donald Trump.

Tuberville believes that the Republican Party’s chances of retaking the Senate in the 2024 election cycle are “looking good in a lot of areas,” and he is eager to see the party regain control. When asked about who he would like to see take on McConnell’s position in 2025, Tuberville revealed that he has spoken to the two current frontrunners, Sens. John Thune (R-SD) and John Cornyn (R-TX), but has not made a decision.

Tuberville’s litmus test for McConnell’s successor is clear: the individual must be on board with Trump’s agenda. He believes that the party needs strong leadership that believes in the American people, the Constitution, and is committed to getting away from the “deep state” and bureaucratic red tape in Washington, D.C.

In terms of the Republican Party’s chances of retaking the Senate, Tuberville is optimistic, predicting that the party will gain anywhere between 51 and 54 seats next month. He specifically praised Republican Senate candidates in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Ohio, calling their campaigns “very good.”

Meanwhile, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has noted that Trump has “astonishing” support against Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential bid in Pennsylvania, with billionaire Elon Musk actively campaigning for Trump in the state. Trump has also appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience, discussing a range of topics including extraterrestrial life and reflecting on his biggest mistake as president. The episode has become one of the most popular in the podcast’s history, further underscoring Trump’s enduring popularity.
