Sen. Fetterman Backs Harris’ Filibuster Proposal to Protect Abortion Rights

In a Tuesday appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) expressed his support for Vice President Kamala Harris’ proposal to abolish the filibuster in order to protect abortion rights. Fetterman acknowledged that the necessary votes to eliminate the filibuster are currently not available, but emphasized the importance of taking a stance on the issue.

Fetterman reflected on the recent reversal of Roe v. Wade, stating, “I wish Roe had never fallen. I agree with the principles of Roe, and I don’t recall a time when a right that has been in place for 50 years was taken away from American women.” He emphasized the need to find a way to restore this right, given the current conservative majority on the Supreme Court.

Fetterman framed the debate as a matter of fundamental disagreement between two sides, saying, “We stand on the side of abortion, and the other side has a different opinion. That’s where we are at.” He did not offer a specific plan for how to achieve the goal of protecting abortion rights, but signaled his commitment to the cause.
