Sen. Coons: VP Harris Has Supported Fracking for Four Years

On Friday’s broadcast of “CNN News Central,” Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), co-chair of the Harris-Walz Campaign, addressed concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris’s stance on fracking. Co-host John Berman pointed out that Harris had claimed to have supported fracking during a 2020 debate, but in reality, she had only stated that President Biden supported it.

Coons responded by highlighting Harris’s actions as Vice President, saying that she has supported fracking for the past four years. He also mentioned that she was a key vote in a landmark bill that made significant investments in combating climate change. Coons expressed confidence in Harris’s position, stating that she has contributed to the country’s progress in reducing emissions and increasing national security through the production of natural gas.

Coons also emphasized the importance of the United States’ leadership in renewable energy and natural gas production, which he believes makes the country more competitive and secure. He noted that many countries, including those he is currently visiting in Tokyo, Japan, look to the United States as a model for energy production and climate change mitigation.

When asked if he was satisfied with Harris’s explanation for her shift on fracking, Coons sidestepped the question and instead focused on her overall record on climate change and energy policy. He emphasized that Harris has been a strong supporter of efforts to combat climate change and has played a key role in promoting the country’s energy security.
