Scalise Accuses Reid of Fueling Hatred with ‘Guardians of Memory’ Claims

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise pushed back against MSNBC host Joy Reid’s claims that former President Donald Trump will “rewrite himself” as a hero and victim, saying that those advocating for “guardians of memory” are actually fueling hatred. In a Tuesday appearance on the Ingraham Angle, Scalise challenged Reid’s notion of a guardian of memory, asking who had given these individuals the authority to play that role.

Scalise pointed out that Trump, as a candidate, is able to focus on issues that matter to the majority of Americans, such as high grocery prices, an open border, and weak economic policies. He contrasted this approach with that of the Left, which is overly reliant on “hyperincendiary language” to distract from meaningful discussion of these issues.

Scalise also drew a comparison between Trump’s policies and those of Ronald Reagan, who was propelled into office in part by dissatisfaction with the Jimmy Carter presidency. According to Scalise, President Joe Biden’s performance has been even more disappointing, creating a sense of urgency among the public to turn to a better leadership model.

Scalise emphasized Trump’s accomplishments during his four years in office, including a strong economy and increased opportunities for Americans. This time around, Scalise suggested, Trump is even more focused on addressing the pressing issues facing the country, such as border security and tackling the problems created by Biden. In his view, Trump’s leadership and emphasis on these issues have never been stronger, with the country more unified than ever.
