According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Rudy Giuliani, the ex-mayor of New York City and attorney for Donald Trump, was booked on Monday as part of the criminal investigation into attempts to overturn Trump’s electoral defeat in Arizona to Joe Biden.
Although a mug shot was released, no additional information was provided. The Maricopa County Clerk of the Superior Court stated that Giuliani put up a $10,000 bond in cash.
His spokesperson, Ted Goodman, stated, “Mayor Rudy Giuliani — the most effective federal prosecutor in U.S. history — will be fully vindicated. This is yet another example of partisan actors weaponizing the criminal justice system to interfere with the 2024 presidential election through outlandish charges against President Trump and anyone willing to take on the permanent Washington political class.”
Giuliani, who had previously pleaded not guilty in May, faces nine felony charges related to his involvement in the fake electors scheme. He is one of 18 individuals indicted in the Arizona case, which also includes Trump attorneys John Eastman, Christina Bobb, and Jenna Ellis.
Former Trump presidential chief of staff Mark Meadows and Trump 2020 Election Day operations director Michael Roman also entered not guilty pleas last Friday in Phoenix to nine felony charges for their roles in the plot.
The charges allege that Meadows collaborated with other members of the Trump campaign to submit false elector names from Arizona and other states to Congress in an attempt to keep Trump in office after his defeat in November 2020.
Similar charges related to the fake electors scheme have been brought in other states such as Michigan, Nevada, and Georgia.
