The new chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) has shifted his focus away from supporting Donald Trump’s re-election in 2024 to helping House Speaker Mike Johnson avoid facing consequences for his actions. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is leading efforts to hold Johnson accountable for various betrayals, but the Democrats have intervened to protect him. Surprisingly, the RNC co-chair Michael Whatley has also gotten involved in supporting Johnson, despite his role typically being focused on defeating Democrats. This move contradicts the promises Whatley made when he first became RNC chairman. Instead of working towards party unity and defeating Democrats, Whatley is now prioritizing actions that seem to align with the Democrats’ interests. This shift has raised questions about the RNC’s priorities and whether it is still committed to its original mission. Efforts to get clarification from RNC spokesperson Rachel Lee have not yielded a response.
