Republican lawmakers are questioning President Joe Biden’s mental sharpness after he agreed to debate former President Donald Trump. They suggest that Biden may struggle to form coherent arguments in front of an audience during the debate.

In a video posted on Wednesday morning, Biden challenged Trump to accept the debates, referencing their previous encounters in 2020. However, many Republicans criticized the short video for its edits, implying that Biden may struggle in a high-stakes debate.

Senator Josh Hawley pointed out the multiple cuts in Biden’s 14-second video and questioned how Biden would fare in a debate without his handlers editing his remarks. The Trump campaign also criticized the video, calling it a “total disaster.”

Both Biden and Trump accepted an invitation to debate on June 27, with Biden committing to participate in at least two debates before the November election. Biden opted for news organization-hosted debates, citing concerns about the Commission on Presidential Debates’ failure to enforce rules during the 2020 debates.

Trump accepted Biden’s challenge, setting the stage for a potentially heated showdown between the two candidates. Trump has previously attacked Biden’s age and mental acuity, claiming that he is unfit for office. The Biden campaign has countered these attacks by emphasizing Biden’s political experience.

Republican lawmakers campaigning for Trump have also used Biden’s age and mental acuity as arguments against his candidacy. The Truth Voices reached out to Biden’s campaign for comment on these accusations.
