Rare Interview: Kamala Harris to Face Press Amid Criticism of Evasiveness

Vice President Kamala Harris is set to break her relative silence with the press, sitting down for a rare interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The announcement comes amid criticism that Harris has been evasive with the media, sparking concerns that she is avoiding tough questions. This interview will only be her second major sit-down with a news network since becoming the Democratic nominee, following a previous conversation with CNN’s Dana Bash alongside her vice presidential running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Harris did make a brief appearance with Oprah Winfrey last week, but her limited engagement with the press has raised eyebrows. California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a prominent Democratic ally, recently suggested that Harris should be more forthcoming with the media.

Speaking on CBS Mornings, Newsom expressed confidence in Harris’ momentum, saying, “I think the wind is at her back…there’s a freshness about her, and she’s focused on the future.” However, when questioned about Harris’ shifts in position on various issues, Newsom downplayed the criticism, describing them as “modest” adjustments.

When asked if Harris should be more accessible to the media, Newsom hesitated, saying, “That’s up to the campaign, I’m not here to advise on that.” However, he later added, “I think she absolutely should be doing more to engage with the media, but ultimately, that’s her decision.”
