Polls Shift as Trump Surges: Pressure Mounts on Biden to Exit Race

As the 2024 presidential election draws near, the shocking attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump has sent shockwaves through the political landscape. In response, over 30 Congressional Democrats have called on President Joe Biden to step down from the race.

With nothing seemingly off-limits in this unpredictable campaign season, Trump’s political fortunes are experiencing a significant resurgence. Pollster Nate Silver has pointed out a clear shift in Trump’s favor, as Biden’s polling numbers continue to falter.

According to Silver’s analysis, Biden’s national polling average has dipped by nearly four points, with his Electoral College chances dwindling to a mere 26%. Meanwhile, Trump’s popularity is surging, as evident from a recent poll that reveals a stark contrast between the two candidates.

As Democratic support for Biden crumbles, the poll’s findings align with growing demands for Biden to abandon his presidential bid. Notably, Silver has publicly stated that Biden lacks the ability to run a conventional campaign.

In a recent podcast, Silver attributed Biden’s declining poll numbers to his inability to adapt to changing circumstances. The pollster speculated that Americans would be hesitant to elect an 81-year-old president who would soon be overwhelmed by COVID-19 complications, even after a would-be assassin failed to harm Trump.

Several factors have contributed to Biden’s dismal campaign. His lackluster debate performance has been particularly devastating, as polls conducted before the debate revealed his struggles. Trump’s unpopularity was already apparent before the debate, largely due to his botched Afghanistan withdrawal and stagnant polling numbers since.

Biden’s immigration policies, which critics describe as radical, have alienated a significant portion of the electorate. Additionally, inflationary concerns have been a major obstacle for the president, as voters question his economic policies. His inability to stem the tide of illegal immigration in key battleground states has also dealt a severe blow to his campaign.

In states such as Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Nevada, which Biden won in 2020, Trump has witnessed significant shifts in support. With his political future looking increasingly precarious, Biden is struggling to regain momentum.
