An anti-Israel tent encampment at George Washington University (GWU) was dismantled early Wednesday morning, with police arresting numerous protesters. Prior to the clearance, some protesters had marched to President Ellen Granberg’s residence, chanting slogans criticizing her. University officials had warned of potential suspensions for students involved in protests across the campus. The encampment had been deemed unlawful and a violation of university policies and city regulations. Local media reported instances of pepper spray being used by police to disperse protesters, with nearly 30 arrests made. The Metropolitan Police Department stated that arrests were made for assault on an officer and unlawful entry. The protest was dispersed due to an escalation in volatility. In a separate incident, an anti-Israel tent encampment at the University of Chicago was also cleared after safety concerns arose. Overall, over 2,600 individuals have been arrested on 50 campuses since April 18 in relation to similar protests nationwide.
