Poland Pledges to Enhance Border Security Measures with Belarus

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited the country’s border with Belarus, which is also the EU’s external border with Belarus, and promised to enhance security along the eastern frontier. Tusk accused Belarus, a close ally of Russia, of waging a “hybrid war” against the West by encouraging migrants to enter the EU. He assured that Poland would spare no expense in bolstering border security.

During his visit, Tusk acknowledged the increasing number of illegal crossings and highlighted the threats stemming from the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The visit coincided with a Polish judge defecting to Belarus, sparking controversy and accusations of espionage.

Tusk’s visit reflects his commitment to border security and the EU’s unity. He emphasized the need for Europe to invest in Poland’s eastern border security. The crisis along the EU’s eastern border with Belarus in 2021 prompted Poland’s previous government to build a tall steel wall. Tusk’s political party, the Civic Coalition, supports border security and stands with the uniformed officers guarding the border.

Overall, Tusk’s visit to the border sends a strong message ahead of the European Parliament elections, reaffirming his party’s stance on border security and support for security forces at the border.
