Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Dave McCormick shared his harrowing account of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, which unfolded just feet away from him at a rally in Pennsylvania.

McCormick, a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army, spoke with ABC News immediately after the incident, recounting the events from the front row of the rally. He had just been introduced by Trump, who was set to invite him on stage, when the shots rang out.

“I was in the front row, and President Trump had just announced me, saying he was going to bring me on stage, and then there were a number of shots – I think probably seven or eight shots,” McCormick recalled. “It was unclear whether they were coming from one or two locations.”

As the shots echoed through the rally, McCormick described a scene of chaos and panic. “Immediately, there was a swarm of Secret Service officers who knocked down President Trump and got on top of him,” he said. “And then he stood back up, and you could see this fist come out, sort of defiant, like he was okay, but you couldn’t tell for sure.”

McCormick noted that it appeared as though there was some blood, but it wasn’t immediately clear. The crowd quickly scrambled to the ground for safety, and McCormick saw someone wounded in the bleachers behind him. It remains unclear whether the injured individual was a bystander or the perpetrator.
