Ohio Couple Faces Child Endangerment Charges After Newborn Found Abandoned Near Hotel

0:00

A distressing scene unfolded on Tuesday evening near the Westspring Inn on Sperry Drive in Westlake, Ohio, when a passerby stumbled upon a newborn baby attached by the umbilical cord to its unconscious mother. The 42-year-old woman, accompanied by a 35-year-old man claiming to be the infant’s father, was discovered by a woman walking her dog.

According to authorities, the parents claimed the child was born “very suddenly” in the hotel room they were occupying. The father, who admitted to being a drug user, told police he had been cleaning the room but had no idea why the mother ventured outside. The Westlake Police Department was informed of the incident and immediately dispatched a response team.

The mother was transported to a local hospital by Westlake EMS, where Child and Family Services arrived upon her arrival. The circumstances of the incident have raised concerns about the welfare of the newborn and the couple, who now face child endangerment charges.
