NFL Disagrees with Harrison Butker’s Expression of Christian Beliefs

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker delivered a strong speech promoting Christian values to graduates at Benedictine College. However, the NFL has publicly stated that they do not agree with Butker’s views.

During his speech, Butker criticized President Joe Biden’s pro-abortion stance, encouraged male graduates to embrace masculinity, and emphasized the importance of motherhood. The NFL’s Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer clarified that Butker’s opinions are not reflective of the NFL as an organization, reaffirming the league’s commitment to inclusion.

Butker also spoke out against Pride Month and expressed traditional Christian beliefs, leading to the NFL distancing themselves from his comments. This contrasts with the NFL’s handling of Colin Kaepernick, who protested during the national anthem. The league never disagreed with Kaepernick’s anti-American views, and even adopted aspects of his cause with the Inspire Change initiative.

While Butker shared his views at a Christian event, the NFL chose to address the situation, highlighting a disconnect between the league’s values and those of Butker. Ultimately, the NFL’s response suggests that their values may align more with Kaepernick and Black Lives Matter, rather than with Butker’s Christian beliefs.
