New Footage Undercuts Trump Narrative on January 6 Security Failures

Newly released footage shows former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressing frustration over the lack of National Guard presence at the US Capitol on January 6, but her anger is not directed at former President Donald Trump. Instead, Pelosi criticizes the decision not to deploy troops beforehand, saying, “We’re calling the National Guard now? They should have been here to start out.”

Pelosi’s comments, captured in a documentary by her daughter Alexandra, suggest that she believes those in charge of securing the Capitol failed to take adequate precautions. “We have totally failed. We need to take some responsibility for not moving to secure [the Capitol],” she says.

The footage contradicts a popular narrative that Trump was responsible for the security failures on January 6. In fact, Trump had offered to deploy federal troops to the Capitol, but the offer was reportedly rejected by DC Mayor Muriel Bowser. This revelation has raised questions about the motivations of some lawmakers, including Rep. Liz Cheney, who allegedly tried to suppress this information to maintain a negative narrative about Trump.
