A recent Harvard-Harris poll found that a majority of voters believe Democrats are using the legal system to politically damage former President Donald Trump. The poll asked nearly 2,000 registered voters whether they thought the legal prosecutions against Trump were fair or politically motivated. 57 percent of respondents felt that Democrats were engaged in “lawfare” against Trump, while 43 percent believed the prosecutions were fair and unbiased.

The poll also revealed that a large majority of Republicans, 83 percent, feel that the legal system is being used to damage Trump politically. On the other hand, 31 percent of Democrats and 57 percent of independents shared the same view. When asked whether Trump’s trials should be moved out of heavily Democratic jurisdictions to avoid bias, 58 percent of voters agreed, including 40 percent of Democrats, 77 percent of Republicans, and 58 percent of independents.

In addition, the poll showed that in hypothetical scenarios where Trump is convicted of a crime, he and President Joe Biden are tied at 50 percent each. However, Trump leads Biden by 52 percent to 48 percent in a scenario where he is found guilty in the federal January 6 case.

The poll was conducted in April 2024 with a margin of error of ± two percentage points.
