Most Biden supporters in the 2024 presidential election are not backing President Joe Biden because of his leadership but are voting “against” former President Donald Trump, according to a recent Economist/YouGov survey.
The survey found that 51 percent of Biden supporters are voting primarily “AGAINST” Trump, while 48 percent are voting “FOR” the 81-year-old president. Among independents planning to vote for Biden, 70 percent are voting “AGAINST” Trump, compared to those voting “FOR” Biden.
In contrast, 62 percent of independents supporting Trump say they are voting “FOR” the former president, with 35 percent voting “AGAINST” Biden.
When asked who they think would win if Biden and Trump were the candidates, 41 percent of respondents believe Trump will win, compared to 34 percent for Biden. Another 25 percent are unsure, with 42 percent of independents unsure but more believing Trump would win over Biden, 37 percent to 21 percent.
The survey, conducted June 9-11, 2024, among 1,595 U.S. adult citizens, comes as other polls show that the Manhattan jury’s guilty verdict in the business records trial has not negatively affected Trump, to the likely dismay of Democrats.
